Tomorrow is Paczki day- the day most people indulge in a special, sweet treat on the day before Lent. For many, that treat will be a Polish doughnut known as a Paczki. I don't remember growing up and having these as a child, but I do remember eating them when I was old enough to go and buy them myself. The picture in my mind is one of the paczki with raspberry filling just oozing out of the middle of the doughnut and of course it had a vanilla frosting :) Today you see paczki's all over-in the supermarket, at the coffee shops, at the doughnut shops, etc. Paczki's are not only sold in Hamtramck anymore BUT to get an original one, one of the best places to go is to Hamtramck at the New Palace Bakery or Martha Washington Bakery both on Jos Campau (I remember getting them from there in 1985-actually another teacher got them where I worked at the time and I just had to 'help them out' by eating one and this is where he went for them).
If you are going to Starbucks for a creme filled paczki it has 300 calories, 16 grams of fat and 0 grams of fiber ( no surprise)!!! Point Value for one-7pts. However, it will depend on the size and the filling in each one so the range can go from 7 pts. up with the average one coming in at a calorie count of 420, with 25 grams of fat.
Now think about this. If you are working out at a gym and burning 300 calories on the elliptical and it takes you 30-40 minutes to do this, do you really want to do the workout AGAIN because you ate one paczki????
Happy Paczki Day!
Happy Mardi Gras
Happy Exercise!
I dont think I will be eating any Paczki today. Dont want another workout! Take care and have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI was in the grocery store this morning and noticed Quaker has a new flavor of rice cake out--Vanilla Creme Brulee. You can have 8 mini rice cakes for only 1 pt and it almost feels like you're cheating they're so good!!
