It is similar in shape to a turnip and is brown or tan in color on the outside but white on the inside. They can weigh anywhere from a few ounces to a few pounds!
How do you eat it? First, you want to cut off the outer skin. Then chop it and add it to stir fry or cut it in matchstick pieces and eat it raw You can dip it in salsa too or add it to a taco for added crunch (it's crunchy like an apple) . It's a nice addition to a fruit salad also.
When buying one, look for a firm one, without any soft spots or blemishes. They are loaded with fiber and low in calories.... so if you're looking for something different... look for a jicama and enjoy !
hi aunty jan!!!! i bought my first jicama a few weeks ago and added it raw to a chopped salad....i don't know...it tasted kind of like dirt to me! :P maybe i'll try it again...
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my blog,it is great to hear from you! I've added jicama to my stir fry and it has taken on the flavor of what it was added to. Let me know if you try it again.
